My boyfriend broke up with me because he's moving in a few months, and now I'm confused?

My ex is graduating high school in a week or so, and I know that he has his mind set on getting out of this town. In the past,my boyfriend and I, were talking about temporarily moving to Myrtle beach together. He really seemed like he wanted me to go since he would remind me "only x months until we're beach goers". A little over a week ago he brought it to my attention that he was just going to go stay with his grandparents down in Florida, since he doesn't think that he will be able to stand living with his cousins (in myrtle beach). So I asked, do you still want me down there with you? and he told me that his grandparents probably wouldn't allow me to go down there with him, but that if i was willing to, we would be long distance for a while, until he came back. Then out of the blue, on Tuesday night, he broke up with me. His reasoning was because he was moving and he couldnt see it working long distance. and he wanted to I guess save me the hurt, and break up now so it wasnt worse down the road. I talked to him about giving it a shot, and if the distance thing wouldnt work out then we would let it be. but he seemed to stick with his guns and not change his mind. He told me how much of an amazing girl I was and said we will still be friends and he will be here for me if i ever need him. so i figured i would give him his space for a while and leave him alone. but then on Thursday he texted me, and yesterday he texted me...I wonder does he miss me, or is he just trying to keep the friendship? I want him back to give the relationship another shot, or i will always wonder what might have been if we would have tried it. what should I do?
