How come more people do not appreciate technical film making?

I understand that movies like "There Will Be Blood" are not entertaining but how come most people can not look passed that and see it for the brilliant film it is? I always here "OMGZ THAT IS THE MOST BORING MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN". Maybe I am of a rare breed of film goer who appreciates quality over stupid jokes and gratuitous action?
