What kind of dog should I get?

I am an animal lover and want a pup. First timer and can't have it in the house at all, however it must be medium or smaller sized and almost non-shedding. But I have lots of exercise space opposite house. Second choice is a guinea pig but don't know what to do. Want a dog more than anything but want to be able to take care of it. Please help!
