What to expect when moving to Yakima, Washington?

My family is moving from Jacksonville NC to Yakima Washington this summer. I have never been to Washington, so would like input on what its like, what to do, where not to go. Also, im coming from a high military and beach goer population - so what will i come to expect? Thanks!
