Does this count as a sin ( for church goers and religous people)?

alright ive asked alot of my friends who go to church but say a young man goes to war and he is face to face with his he goes to pull the trigger but dies before he pulls it now does he get the sin for murder because in his mind he was going to kill him he had fully accepted he would kill him but it happened to fast but he wanted to kill him... and heres another if you plan on killing somebody but die before you do it do you still get the sin? because you had full intention of doing it you just never did it if your going to say no he didnt do it he did plan on it and he fully accepted that he was going to kill that man so shouldnt he have to face that sin?
