Legal to take fish caught on Florida beaches?

I'm a pretty normal beach-goer to beaches near/around central florida (New Smyrna and Daytona are good examples) and I'm curious to know if it's legal to keep fish that are caught from the ocean? I was in Cocoa not long ago and saw a guy take a fish that he caught and clean it and such for a future meal, but not sure if it's legal to just take fish without any precautions or anything taken initially. Thanks for any help.
